Pia Gynell-Jorgensen: New Works, was a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at Atelier Antifragile, 2024.
Over the past year, I’ve noticed a more defined pattern in my painting practice, a little push and pull between technical knowledge and a child-like eagerness to play. I seem to, during the progression of a piece, take design values like balance, contrast and rhythm, and squish them like play-doh with my sweaty little palms, until these principles are displaced and dirty. Then, using fields of explosive colour to simplify or preserve the loose draftsmanship of a confident hand, I coax out the original intent, until something beautiful emerges, or until something both alluring and restful settles down in front of me, like a vase of flowers or a sleeping dog.

Does it count if you cry with your eyes closed, laying down? The tears go back into your sinus and drip into your mouth. It counts as drinking water.
